The Gardens at Spring Creek Event: Día De Muertos

City Events - Wed, 2023-11-01 23:00

Join us in honoring the tradition of Día de Muertos at our Botanical Garden!

Día de Muertos is a time to pay homage and celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have passed away. Admire the ofrendas, adorned with marigolds candles, and keepsakes. These ofrendas are tributes representing the enduring love we hold for those who have journeyed beyond.

Rooted in indigenous Aztec beliefs and practices, Dia de Muertos has evolved over centuries, blending indigenous and Catholic traditions. It was originally celebrated in August, but Spanish colonization shifted the date to coincide with All Saints' and All Souls' Day, a decision that fused native customs with Catholicism.

Discover the Nicho designed by Vanessa Jimenez, owner of Mexican cultural shop Frida Azul. Inside our butterfly house, be captivated by the ethereal presence of monarch butterflies and our beautiful cempazúchitl.
